The Government adopted a strategic review of defence
Starting next year, Slovak Defence Minister Ľubomír Galko wants to introduce a new model of Slovak Armed Forces functioning into practice. “We want to launch the building of a modern, well equipped and effectively functioning military for an independent and self-confident Slovakia right from January,” Galko said after a Government session on Wednesday. According to the minister, what now lies ahead of the armed forces is the streamlining of officer structures, mergers of command centres, and civilian lay-offs. Galko expects the positive effects of these measures to be visible as soon as in 2013.
Slovakia is prepared to adopt strategy of armed forces modernization
On 19 May 2011, during his official visit to the Slovak Republic, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen met with the highest authorities of the country. He discussed various topics, in particular the issues of security and defense policy, with the President of the country Ivan Gašparovič, Prime Minister Iveta Radičová.

Preparing IDEB 2010 Fair
About IDEB 2010 Exhibition with Italian authorities
On 18 November 2009, the organizers of IDEB 2010, Ing. Kopecký a Ing. Mésároš, introduced the defence fair to Italian authorities based in Slovakia. The working meeting was attended by the Italian Defence Attaché General Landi (Italian Embassy), Director of the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade – ICE Dr. Quattrocchi, Commercial Attaché Dr. Belligotti (Italian Embassy). During the meeting, General Landi promised to inform the concerned bodies, which will consider the Italian Armed Forces’ involvement in IDEB 2010, and wished the organizers good luck in planning and staging the event.
Informal Meeting of Defence Ministers of NATO Member Countries
Negotiations of the informal meeting of Defence Ministers of NATO member countries ended on Friday 23rd of October, 2009. For the first time in history taking place in Slovakia, the meeting was attended by about 800 representatives and 300 accredited journalists from all over the world. In this year of important events, Slovakia catches the attention of the foreign countries – not only because of the fifth anniversary of our country as a NATO member and 60 anniversary of the very North Atlantic Treaty Organization foundation, but because of Slovakia being a host country for such a significant event.
