Slovakia is prepared to adopt strategy of armed forces modernization

On 19 May 2011, during his official visit to the Slovak Republic, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen met with the highest authorities of the country. He discussed various topics, in particular the issues of security and defense policy, with the President of the country Ivan Gašparovič, Prime Minister Iveta Radičová.

The Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic informed the NATO Secretary General that the Slovak Republic is prepared to adopt the strategy of reorganization and modernization of its armed forces. She stressed the need to react to modernization trends of the 21st century, but also the need to use resources as efficiently as possible.

The Slovakia’s priorities in NATO relate to three fields. Namely our participation in the missions in Afghanistan and Cyprus, modernization and increasing efficiency of defensive units and more intense participation of the country in the Alliance’s international projects and programmes, where joint efforts would allow a more beneficial use of the resources by a larger number of countries.
